A Vogue-Inspired Wedding at Grittleton House
Sophie and Jake’s wedding at Grittleton House was one of those days that felt particularly special to photograph.
With black tie styling, beautiful deep green tones and a clear vision for their photographs, it had a real editorial feel to it. It’s probably one of the most editorial weddings I’ve captured so far, and I absolutely loved leaning into that style.
A Little Bit of Vogue
When I spoke to Sophie and Jake before the wedding, they shared a collection of inspiration images showing exactly the kind of photographs they loved. From fashion-inspired portraits to more editorial group shots, they had a really clear vision for their day.
Jake was particularly keen on the group photographs, so finding the right setting for these was important.
Knowing Grittleton House so well definitely came in handy here. We decided to use the bar for the Vogue style groups, and it was perfect. The darker interiors and character of the room gave us exactly the look we were going for, creating something a little different from your traditional wedding group photographs.
It’s one of the things I love about photographing weddings at venues I know well. Sometimes it’s about seeing the potential in a space and knowing how to make it work for the couple.

Leaning Into Flash Photography
Another thing I particularly loved about this wedding was the opportunity to use flash throughout much of the day.
It’s a style I’ve been enjoying exploring more, and this felt like the perfect wedding to really lean into it. Combined with the black tie dress code, the styling and the couple’s vision, it gave the photographs that fashion-inspired feel I love.
My documentary approach will always be a big part of what I do, but there’s something really exciting about working with a couple who want to embrace a more editorial style too.
For Sophie and Jake, it was about bringing those two approaches together, capturing the moments as they happened while creating those more considered portraits.
Getting Married at Grittleton House?
Grittleton House is one of my absolute favourite venues to photograph. The beautiful architecture, characterful interiors and variety of spaces make it such a brilliant setting for couples who love a classic, elegant aesthetic.
I think it lends itself particularly well to black tie weddings and that timeless, Vogue-inspired feel. And knowing the venue well means I can look beyond the obvious spots and find locations that work for the photographs you have in mind.
Sophie and Jake’s wedding pushed me creatively, and I loved the opportunity to approach the day a little differently. It’s definitely one I’ll remember.
If you’re planning your wedding at Grittleton House or another beautiful venue in Wiltshire or the Cotswolds, and love a mix of documentary photography and editorial portraits, I’d love to hear about your plans.
